Cognitive Leadership is the concept and deliberate practice of being a leader who is a great role model. Walking the walk, talking the talk. In this course, you will work with cognitive apprenticeship concepts to develop further your leadership expertise. This workshop looks at types of communication and the responses we invoke, encourage and invite. By examining the words you use, your body language and your internal reasons you can begin to understand why colleagues are rebellious, defensive, creative, highly driven, motivated or not in relation to you. From knowing more about this you can distinguish the behaviours and outcomes you want to keep and those you would like to change. 4. Lost in Space – IT change and human factors
Have you ever experienced email content and intent getting 'lost in translation'? Or have you been part of new or updated IT being introduced, where you have found yourself amongst a group of people where there was a mix of the willing to the absolute die-hard resisters? If so, you will know that emotions can run high in these situations and often very quickly.
This day will cover a change methodology that is accompanied by the range of human factors so that you will be able to assist people wherever they are on the change continuum to come with you. It will also encompass e-communication typical tones and gestures that can cause misunderstandings and misinterpretations.

Leadership phrases can be from ‘if you can’t stand the heat – get out of the kitchen’ to absolute deafening silences. This session addresses the fine line between the ‘pleasure and pain’ of authority and examines the various kinds i.e. aggressive, apathetic, assertive, over-adaptive and constructive. From this apply strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to define what is beneficial and those that are ready for a change. 8. Great Expectations – getting the agreements you want...
OK, so you thought they said ‘X’ and they thought you would do ‘Y’. Agreements and expectations due to our own context, thinking, agendas and rationale often end up mixed-up. Misunderstandings are commonplace, add to the mix different cultures, languages, accents, stress levels, deadlines (to name a few) and it is no wonder.
This session introduces you to the concepts and models of ‘contracting’ and how to improve agreements being understood by all parties, clearly and well. It is a concept that is evidenced based to be so effective that once you start using it you will never look back, you will experience less confusion and misunderstanding along with the satisfaction of knowing that ‘we are all on the same page’ and ‘going in the same direction’.

For women and men in the workplace. Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook gave an electrifying TEDTalk – viewed more than 2 million times. In it she described how women unintentionally hold themselves back in their careers and encouraged women to ‘lean in’ and ‘sit at the table’, take risks and pursue their goals with gusto. This day will take these concepts and apply them to the here and now of our own roles and to look at ways they can be applied and enacted individually, collectively and organisationally.
